Hey everyone,

Since about a week ago, the power liftgate of my friend's Wagoneer has stopped closing automatically, or lets say It only works about 1 out of every 20 tries. Whether we use the key, overhead console, or rear button, it beeps four times and won’t close. A message always pops up saying, "Power liftgate temporarily unavailable, please close manually to operate."

Has anyone else experienced this? Any tips on how to fix it?

She is trying to avoid a trip to the dealership, she has been through a lot

Thanks!

classic finicky power liftgate! That beep pattern usually means the system detects some kind of obstruction, even if there’s nothing visible. First, I’d suggest carefully cleaning the liftgate sensors and checking for any dirt or debris in the latch area, it doesn’t take much to throw it off. If that doesn’t work, try a hard reset: disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes, reconnect it, and see if the liftgate reinitializes. That’s worked for me before on other vehicles with similar systems!

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to update you all! We tried the hard restart by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, and it worked! The power liftgate is functioning properly again. Thanks for the help.
